hey folks, i've been doing a few portraits for people in my usual airbrushed style, which has taken me years to get to a photorealistic level of finish. but after putting out flyers i've found that as soon as you tell people that they're airbrushed on the computer, there's the automatic assumption that you just scan a photo and somehow the computer does it all for you. which is a little frustrating when you've spent tens of hours meticulously hand painting an image. but due to the oh so smooth finish of the airbrush in photoshop i can see why the uninformed would make this assumption.
anyway, enough of a rant for now...
i've started offering a more traditional style of artwork now, so instead of spending hours fussing over the tiniest details, i'm just slapping them down in corel painter, using traditional acrylic and oil painting methods, to achieve a more "artistic" finish.
it's actually quite a bit of fun, and a lot quicker. this friesian portrait only took a few hours, using a photo reference (i just had to paint it without the bridle).
it's a bit of a different direction for me, but hey, gotta keep trying new things or life gets boring.
seeya.
I think, even with traditional medium and a more traditional style, people assume 'art' is easy. The amount of requests I get to do something for FREE really annoys me. I won't just whip up something in five minutes. I like spending a fair amount of time to get things looking good. Between a 9-5 job, a husband, house hunting and actual paying work, I don't have time for freebies unless I offer or I like you! Okay, that was MY rant for the day.
BACK to the picture. I really like the freehand look style and am still impressed with the detail and life you throw into a portrait. Another wonderful animal portrait.

yep, people who think that cos you enjoy it you want to sacrafice hours of your time on a project for them get quite annoying. and then you offer them a really cheap price to get it done and they say don't bother, and have the gall to be insulted that you won't do it for free. grrr.
anyway, thanks for the comment i'll probly end up doing more in this style in future, so it's good to get some positive feedback

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
