commissioned character concept piece.
This one was fun :) took only about 5 hours all up. And yes, it looks like my hair practicing is actually paying off. this actual image is painted at 7300x 3300px at 300dpi and is detailed to a quality A2 (16x23") finish.
the textures used are all from either imagineFX magazine or private resources.

Very cool, no crits from me. The moon backlighting it makes the fire look... I dunno, like the creature is more involved with the environment, either way, its looks very nice. :thumbsup:

thanks man, yeah i've been working on my lighting and using opposite colours to bring out contrasts and all that. practicing tips i've been picking up in imagineFX magazine. seems to be working out alright :) cheers mate.

Awesome work as usual. My only issue is how long the canvas is but how little is actually going on underneath the weasel monster dude. I hate to say it, but my eye is drawn to the fire instead of the creature.

thanks :) yep, i'm getting quicker as i go along. It helps when you only have a fairly loose description, so you can run with whatever comes out instead of deliberating over tiny details. definitely helps...

yeah, fair point. the outline i got in the brief had quite a few aspects to cover in only one pic, so i used the flame to add dramatic lighting to help create the menace of the character, and also in the accompanying story it was a group of hunters coming across this creature in the jungle, so i wanted to make it recognisable as a torch flame. as though seen from the hunters view. it does look better cropped. that's why i added the second signature in the flames :)

Gothca! :D Either way, it's really solid work. I really like how it almost looks like a 3D rendering... That's when you know your painting is kickass. Keep it up.
