this started out as just a speedsketch, just for the sake of trying to draw a badass werewolf. the original sketch can be viewed in my scraps.
i kept looking at it and thinking how much i liked the pose and feeling of the pic, and that i should do something more with it, but the prospect of doing all that hair was too daunting.
but, i finally decided to give it a go, and it was fun at first. but then as the hours ticked by i got really sick of drawing hair. i had to do this in about 5 sittings, as after a couple of hours of hair detailing i couldn't handle any more. every single strand of hair on this fuzzy bastard was drawn seperately. i tried making up some brushes from multiple dots to do a few hairs at a time, but they gave too uniform a finish, and i wanted him to have coarse hair going everywhere.
but, it was good practice, and turned out pretty well, so i'm glad i did decide to have a crack at it.
no references were used for any of this, but i've always had dogs so i had a fair idea of how all the fur would go.
all done in photoshop cs2 with 12x18 wacom tablet.

How do you draw a totally awesome werewolf? One hair at a time. the big bad by *dypsomaniart is a testament to patience and dedication. I'm just glad he didn't give up on this one, it's just too killer of a drawing. (Featured by `Aeires)

Excellent work on the hair, you should get a lot of credit for sticking it out and working in such detail. I like the pose as well, very energetic and menacing, though perhaps the limb on the left of the picture (his right) appears a bit too small. But great work overall :D

Great work Jesse - he's so intense & real! Definitely wouldn't want to come across this one late at night...
Kudos for actually doing all that fur - I would've gone insane...
