yet another re-working of one of my early drawings. this one now has many, many hours spent on it.
sorry guys, i put more clothes on her this time around but she looks more authentic now...
that's the trouble with digital art, as my drawing ability improves, i look back over my early pics and it's like "i might just make a small adjustment there..." then ten hours later i've totally re-painted it...
anyways, drawn from scratch in photoshop, no references.

Again, great work. I love the additional clothing (yes, I know 'cause I am not a guy). I have always wondered why women tend to go into battle (Golden Axe, just one example) with bikinis and men tend to wear full armour. I guess we are just that much better at not getting hit?
She looks smoother and better balanced with the sword (even though I can't be sure you changed that).
What are some of your brushes and settings like to get that natural softness in the skin tones?

Very nice, but seems like maybe her arms should be more muscular to hold up a big metal object like that... Not that you should spend even MORE hours on it. It looks good as it is.

Dont worry, be happy now.. Too dooo doo loo loo
i think guys just like drawing girls in bikinis
as for brushes, pretty much 95 percent of my work (in this one, "nightmare?" was done 100 percent) is drawn/painted with a modified soft round airbrush. if you're using the default photoshop brushes it's like 25 from the top. grab this brush, then in the brush editor, under "other dynamics" change the opacity jitter control to "pen pressure" but leave the setting at zero and the flow jitter should already be set to pen pressure, setting zero.
this should give you an airbrush with about twice the smoothness in the gradation of any of the preset brushes. all i do then is vary the opacity and size. when sketching and doing hair i'll be on 100 percent opacity (i never move the flow from 100 percent) and for filling in the shading usually around 30 percent. then just use the same brush as an eraser to do any tidying up, cahnging the size to get the sharpness in the edges.
i stumbled apon this setting while just playing around with the brush editor, and it made a huge difference to my art.
this brush gives so much control it's pretty much all i use. good luck with it
